Here are four popular local walks for guests of the White Cottage, Keswick.

No 1: Friars Crag and Castlehead
Easy Grade
3.1 miles, 2 hours

A short but revealing walk that takes you on a circular route past Derwentwater's northern lakeshore. The lakeshore makes an ideal place for a family picnic and the open spaces allow for everybody to experience the beauty of the Northern Lake District.

No 2: Derwentwater
Easy Grade
8.1 miles, 5 - 6 hours

A long but leisurely stroll around the beautiful lake shoreline of Derwentwater. You can shorten this walk by taking the Derwent Ferry to The Lodore Hotel and then continuing around the western shoreline. This walk is especially spectacular when the Spring and Autumn colours are out.

No 3: Castlerigg
Moderate Grade
3.7 miles, 2 - 3 hours

A very pleasant walk through Keswick town and the local countryside with good views of the Eastern Fells towards Hevelleyn. We recommend that you undertake this walk anti-clockwise from the White Cottage. This walk covers a range of mixed ground from stoney paths, fields to tarmaced road surfaces.

No 4: Catbells and Newland
Strenuous Grade
8.1 miles, 5 - 7 hours

A more challenging walk on this popular fell. This route takes you through Portinscale which offers an ideal opportunity for a coffee and cake stop. The path up to Catbells is not for the faint hearted and is a good test of stamina. All the upward effort is made worthwhile when you see the amazing vistas from the top.
